The new year is almost here and I am getting prepared for another year of drawing something every day! In 2019 I did pretty well with doodling something once a day. I followed prompts found on Instagram and the internet, but I also came up with my own themes for a few months when other drawing challenges had themes that didn't fit what I was looking for. For 2020 I made up an entire year's worth of prompts for myself instead! My goal was to push myself to draw things that I have never drawn before, but also to make sure the items on the list are simple enough to be just a quick doodle if I don't feel like spending the time on a full-fledged drawing. I tried to leave out characters, people and animals since those seem to take me longer to draw. I also left holidays out of my themes for this year so if anyone wants to follow along they can, no matter where they're from! Each month's list has 31 items on it, so for months that have less than 31 days you can pick which prompts you want to skip! I've picked a theme for each month, but I'm going to post all the prompts for the entire year here, so if you don't like a theme you can pick a different one to do instead! If you do join me, feel free to share your doodles and drawings on instagram and tag me @DontHesitateKate because I'd love to see what you make! I'll be breaking this list up and posting each month's list separately as the month begins. I'll make sure to include hashtags on those so we can see each other's drawings! Have a Happy New Year! January 2020 ~ Theme: GardenI thought a garden theme for January would be nice since the new year is a new start and gardens, to me, represent growth and new beginnings!
February 2020 ~ Theme: FurnitureSomething I thought would be good to learn how to draw is furniture, so that is the theme for February! I didn't organize them by room, but just left them in the order I thought of them. Feel free to rearrange the list if you'd like!
March 2020 ~ Theme: Getting To Know MeI thought it would be fun to have a drawing challenge that was also a journaling challenge. These are open ended prompts and everyone who does the challenge will end up with something different! Some of these might be a little abstract, the idea is to draw a symbol or something that signifies your answer. You can write what your answers below your drawing if that helps!
April 2020 ~ Theme: FoodAnother theme to help me learn to draw things I don't draw very often is this months theme: Food! I tried to include the American and British names for some of the foods, but feel free to let me know if I got something wrong!
May 2020 ~ Theme: Self CareI'm excited for these prompts! Maybe drawing a form of self care each day will help remind you to take care of yourself too!
June 2020 ~ Theme: BeachI live in Florida, and the beach is one of my favourite places! There are some animals on this list, but feel free to do a more cartoony, simple version of these animals if you prefer.
July 2020 ~ Theme: CampingJuly is peak summer vacation time in my mind, so I thought a camping theme would be fun!
August 2020 ~ Theme: SportsI'm not very sporty... but I LOVE the Olympics. The 2020 Olympics run from September through August, so I thought a sports theme would be good for this month! I didn't specifically pick Olympic sports, but just a wide range of sports in general.
September 2020 ~ Theme: MusicThis theme is another to push me to draw new things. It will be a fun challenge for me!
October 2020 ~ Theme: Disney ItemsSo I thought a Disney theme would be fun but I wanted it to be subtle. I didn't want to draw the actual characters, so I thought it would be fun to do items from the films. Some actually work for more than one Disney movie.
November 2020 ~ Theme: Circus/CarnivalI thought this would be cute and fun! I don't actually like circuses, but I enjoy the aesthetic. I made sure to leave animals off this list for more than one reason.
December 2020 ~ Theme: CandySo a candy theme is a natural choice for October because of Halloween, but I didn't want to be predictable! Candy is a good theme in it's own right, with or without Halloween. I tried my best to include candy that's well known, but a google search may help if you encounter a candy on the list you don't recognize. The trick to some items on this list is drawing the wrappers, but you can just draw the candies themselves if that's more to your liking.
