This month I was able to tackle three more tasks from my list. I tried fish, went to a theme park thanks to a mobility aid, and learned all of the U.S. state capitols. Trying Fish: This month I had family visiting. On August 20th we went out to dinner at a seafood restaurant. I ordered fish and chips and their recipe used cod. I didn't love it ... it tasted okay, but the texture was really weird. It was like eating feathers? It's safe to say that I am not someone that appreciates fish. Once my family realized it was my first time trying fish they let me try theirs too. I tried a breaded scallop, which I hated. I also tried a grouper nugget. That one was alright. It tasted similar to chicken with a texture akin to a chicken tender. Overall, I will probably avoid ordering fish at restaurants and stick to poultry and beef. Use a Mobility Aid at a Theme Park: On August 22nd my family and I went to Universal Studios Island of Adventure. Since I can't stand or walk for very long I rented a manual wheelchair. I definitely felt guilty that my family members had to push me around in the Florida heat, but it allowed me to spend the day with them which wouldn't have been possible otherwise. The park is fairly wheelchair-friendly with only a few shops that were too narrow. All of the rides we went on were accessible. The lines were wide enough for the wheelchair and were comprised of ramps, and the employees at the park were great with offering to slow down moving platforms and taking care of the wheelchair while I was on the ride. I was anxious about the whole ordeal in the morning, but it ended up working out well. Learning State Capitols: This task was something I've been working on since the first week of my 1001 days. I used geoguessr.com to practice and now can get 100% consistently every time I do a quiz. Being able to locate the states on a map was the first step in my journey to be better at geography, which I completed as part of my last 101 tasks from 2019-2022. It's exciting that I now know all of the U.S. state capitols as well! Next up I plan to tackle learning all of the countries in the Americas.
